About
Plain-English
voter info.
Our mission
Poll · Yard is a nonpartisan voter information tool built for Marylanders. We turn the dense complexity of an election ballot into plain English — every race, every candidate, what each office actually does, customized down to your address. We don't tell you who to vote for. We help you walk into the booth knowing what you're looking at.
Where our data comes from
Race & candidate data originates from candidate filings submitted to the Maryland State Board of Elections for the June 23, 2026 primary. We ingest periodic snapshots rather than querying SBE in real time.
Current officeholders (used to tag incumbents) come from OpenStates for state legislators and the U.S. Congress directory for federal ones, accessed through Geocodio.
Address-to-district lookup is powered by Geocodio, which maps your street address to your congressional, state senate, state house, and county boundaries.
Editorial principles
- 01No endorsements. We never recommend candidates and we don't score or rank them.
- 02Alphabetical within races. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name, the same way they appear on Maryland ballots.
- 03No party-loaded language. Office definitions stick to what the role does, not what we think about it.
- 04Official sources only. Every name, district, and party affiliation traces back to a public, authoritative source — never a campaign press release or a third-party tracker.
Corrections
See something wrong? A misspelled name, a missing candidate, an office definition that's off — we want to fix it.

Poll · Yard is built by a small team of Marylanders who kept showing up to the polls feeling under-informed about the local races at the bottom of the ballot. We're not affiliated with any political party, campaign, or government agency. [Placeholder — team bios coming soon.]
